Tagalog News: Estados Unidos, magbibigay ng $8.5M food aid sa Pilipinas

Manila (27 October) -- Ipinangako ang Estados Unidos na magbibigay ng food assistance na nagkakahalaga ng $8.5M para sa mga biktima na dalawang bagyong magkasunod na nanalanta sa Pilipinas.

Tiniyak ito ni US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, kasama si US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenny, sa kanyang courtesy call sa Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Ipinahayag ni Vilsack na ang assistance, sa pamamagitan ng US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food for Progress Program, ay bubuuin ng 7,000 metric tons ng bigas at 680 metric tons ng non-fat dry milk. Aniya, ito ay sapat na upang pakainin ang 438, 000 katao sa loob ng 60 araw.

Sinabi rin ni Vilsack na naiintindihan ng Estados Unidos ang pangangailang mag-abot sa Pilipinas ng tulong sa panahon ng sakuna.

Nandito sa Pilipinas si Vilsack upang buksan ang isang trade mission na naglalayong palakasin ang direct commercial relations sa pagitan ng mga local producers, processors, traders, at investors.

Nakatakda din siyang pumunta sa China upang dumalo sa bilateral meetings para sa agricultural trade and development ng nasabing bansa. (Hannah/PIA 12) [top]
