Army spearheads 3rd joint MEDCAP in Basilan
Isabela City, Basilan (27 October) -- Since their arrival last month in Basilan, the Army's 32nd Infantry (Daredevil) Battalion under LTC Jones F. Agustin spearheaded Friday its 3rd joint Medical and Dental Civic Action Program (MEDCAP) particularly in a remote Brgy Tumahubong Central Elementary School, Sumisip municipality.
Some 475 needy residents benefited from the MEDCAP. This include other residents from nearby barangays of Bacung, Cabengbeng, Manaul, Marang and Sapah Bulak. Some 323 individuals benefited from free medical consultation with free prescribed medicines; 49 on tooth extraction; 58 on circumcision and 45 elementary school children got free haircut.
Hon. Gov. Jum Akbar; Hon. Assemblyman Nasser Asarul and Hon Mayor Haber Asarul accompanied by LTC Agustin arrived in the MEDCAP venue and welcomed by the District Supervisor Mr Ramly Amping upon their arrival.
The Governor lauded LTC Agustin and his men for the timely joint MEDCAP in far flung areas. She promised to continue her assistance by providing additional needed medicines to augment the medicines allocated by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
LTC Agustin informed the governor that 80% of the army's activities are focused in Civil Military Operations (non-combat activities) and only 20% in combat or security operations.
This particular MEDCAP was realized thru the participation of the Provincial Health Office led by Provincial Health Officer Dr Rhoda Principe; Municipal Health Personnel of Sumisip led by Dr. Hannah Cherrylyn Baul, with the reinforcement of DepEd ARMM Nurses led by Mr. Alexander Anquillano. Dr Amina Ismael also single-handedly performed tooth extraction, being the only one dentist present.
Meanwhile, as part of the AFP's continuous campaign on anti-terrorism, the Psyops Team from the 4th Civil Relations Group, CRSAFP represented by MSg Jose Uyeg, together with the 32IBs CMO personnel led by TSg Romanito Ponteras, distributed hundred copies of information materials. These include the Barbangsa Comiks, leaflets on improvised explosive devise (IED) and Call 4 peace stickers.
1LT Israel Galorio, CMO Officer of 32IB, announced that similar medical outreach activities are scheduled in the municipalities of Maluso, Sumisip, and Tabuan Lasa - all of which are in the southern part of the island province, which also happens to be the area of responsibility of the 32IB. The first MEDCAP was held at Calang, Canas in Maluso.
At the end of the whole day activity, Mayor Asarul thanked LTC Agustin in conducting two separate humanitarian services to his constituents this month of October.
