PIA Press Release

Pag-ibig Fund cries foul over accusations

By Venus H. Sarmiento

Dagupan City (28 October) -- The Home Development Mutual Fund branch here dismissed as unfair the accusations that the office is slow and not doing its job of processing calamity loans badly needed by Pangasinenses.

Pag-ibig Fund branch Manager Jerome Avila said the branch has been doing its job diligently even extending office hours to Saturdays to accommodate the huge volume of calamity loan applications.

"The comments on radio are unfair. Announcers should have at least asked for our side of the story, and applicants should also understand. We urge them to verify (complaints) from us. We are trying our best to process applications within 3-5 days or even shorter. As a matter of fact, we have more than 500 unclaimed checks in the office so I asked my staff to text the recipients individually," he said Tuesday during the 'Pantongtongan Tayo' radio program of the Philippine Information Agency over Radyo ng Bayan DZMQ.

Avila said the monstrous volume of applications everyday is being attended to efficiently. "On the average, we receive around 400-500 loan applications daily. But typhoon Pepeng sparked up applications to thousands. Last week alone, we received nine thousand applications," he said.

He also advised loan applicants to just course their application through their fund coordinators or for them to call the office for verification to avoid long queues.

He said Pag-ibig Fund is also offering moratorium for housing loans. Beneficiaries can pay their amortizations after three months. The office is also offering Rehabilitation Loan for a minimum of P150,000 on top of the calamity and multi-purpose loans.

The Pag-ibig office - Dagupan branch became a full branch in March this year and caters to Pangasinan members only. Being a full branch, the office now accepts and processes applications right in Dagupan, a far cry from what it used to be as an extension office that only accepts applications for processing at the regional office in La Union.
