NVizcaya Comelec to conduct massive info drive on automated polling system
Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (October 28) -- The Commission on elections will conduct a massive and intensified information, education and communication campaign in the province to ensure the success of the conduct of the full automated 2010 national and local elections.
Lawyer Abraham Asuncion, Comelec provincial supervisor here said they are now conducting foras in 15 municipalities and 275 barangays in the province to ensure that the voters will be properly oriented and guided on the proper procedures required by the automated system of elections during the 2010 national and local elections.
"We need the full support of the tri-media on this because there are rules to be followed which are crucial in determining their validity and readability by the Precinct Code Optical Scan(PCOS) machine," he said during a media forum Wednesday(October 28) at the provincial capitol building function room here.
He cited the proper shading of the ballots which must pass the 50 percent threshold to enable the PCOS read, scan and honor the votes while passing through it and the no-excess voting rule that can affect the proper turnout of votes.
While admitting that the conduct of a full automated poll exercise in 2010 will not totally eradicate election protests, it will instead reduce human intervention activities that tend to trigger irregularities during the election period.
"I think the automated polls next year will give another wave of problems but let us see and compare which is better because this will be our first test," Asuncion said. (bme/PIA NVizcaya) [top]
