Negros Occidental celebrates 15th Correctional Consciousness Week
Negros Occidental (29 October) -- The Provincial Jail Management Division (PJMD) in coordination with the Negros Occidental Parole and Probation Coordinating Center (NOPPCCEN) spearhead the celebration of the 15th Correctional Consciousness Week celebration.
Themed "Be a light to others… instrument of healing and reconciliation", the celebration is a collaborative effort of the provincial and national government agencies, aimed at promoting public participation in re-socialization and re-integration of offenders into the mainstream society.
Grace Tomaro, Chief of the Parole Probation Office II and member of NOPPCCEN Management Committee gave a brief overview of the celebration while Lt. Dionisio Silva, Head of PJMD revealed the weeklong activities.
A mass officiated by Fr. Farely Santillan followed which was attended by capitol employees, police officers and detainees.
Activities lined-up for the weeklong event include a forum on salient features of Republic Act 9344 otherwise known as Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act with Judge Ray Allan T. Drillon, Executive Judge of RTC- Bacolod City as resource speaker. Panel of reactors will include P/Sr. Supt. Manual B. Felix, Provincial Director of NOPPO, Supt. Rizaldy B. Navarro, Provincial Jail Administrator of BJMP and Liane Garcia, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer.
Sportsfest sa Provincial Jail will highlight the celebration while a medical mission sponsored by Provincial Health Office and family visitation by Public Affairs Division are also lined up for the celebration.
Fun-filled parlor games for the detainees and a closing ceremony will cap the week-long celebration. (Capitol News/PIA/EAD) [top]
