Zambo Sur holds Children's Congress 2009

Zamboanga City (30 October) -- Once again, the Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Sur successfully celebrated its Annual Children's Congress thru the efforts of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, last October 26, 2009 at the Megayon Stage, Provincial Government Complex, Dao, Pagadian City.

The event paved the way for the pre-schoolers coming from the different municipalities in the entire province to meet and compete on the following categories: Draw and Tell, Speech Choir, Singing Contest, Folkdance, and Sayaw Awit (Sing and dance) contests.

PSWD Officer Mrs. Conchita A. San Diego warmly welcomed the participants (pre-schoolers), their parents, day care workers, municipal social workers and all the visitors around.

San Diego said that in line with the celebration of the Children's Congress, they are also conducting the Sports Fest of the Children in-Need of Special Protection (CNSP) held at the Amusement and Events Center, Provincial Capitol Compound.

The activity commenced with a parade and was participated by the children from Kaabag Women Center, Home for Children In-conflict with the Law, in partnership with non-government organizations such as Kalambuan, and others.

"The activities conducted were part of their regular programs. This is the only way that the children will be convened and let them show their talents and abilities through the social developments learned from their respective day care centers", San Diego explained.

Meanwhile, Hon. Felicidad "Baby" Funtanilla, provincial board member of the 2nd district, gave her message of thanks and encouragement to the children, parents, day care workers, and municipal social workers on behalf of Provincial Governor Aurora Enerio Cerilles.

After the contest proper, the jurors came up with their unanimous decisions as to who among the contenders are the best. The results were as follows: Speech Choir - 1st placer - Margosatubig, 2nd placer - Mahayag, 3rd placer - Tambulig; Folkdance- 1st placer - Tabina, 2nd placer - Midsalip, 3rd placer - Tigbao; Song Solo- 1st placer - Dumingag, 2nd placer - Sominot, 3rd placer - Ramon Magsaysay; Sayaw Awit - 1st placer - Kumalarang, 2nd placer - Molave, 3rd placer - San Miguel; Draw and Tell - 1st placer - Duimingag, 2nd placer - Pitogo, and 3rd placer - Ramon Magsaysay.

The champions of the different categories will represent the province in the upcoming Regional Children's Congress in Zamboanga City. (PR/pgo-pbb/pia9) [top]
