PGMA's 4Ps to help alleviate poverty, Samar mayor asserts
Catbalogan, Samar (October 30) -- Zumarraga Mayor Neil Edwin Figueroa profusely thanked the national government for the implementation of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in the island town of Zumarraga.
"PGMA's 4Ps will definitely help alleviate poverty in Zumarraga," the mayor said in a phone interview.
Some 1, 586 families in Zumarraga took turns in withdrawing their financial assistance at the Land Bank of the Philippines-Catbalogan.
PIA Samar chanced upon the last wave of the four batches.
When asked whether the program won't be abused; Figueroa assured that as Chairman of the monitoring team, he will impose the conditions to the letter.
In the orientation, Zumarraga's poor were told of the conditions they have to meet to qualify for the program.
"I will not hesitate to suspend anyone who will violate the conditions," assured Figueroa.
Cristina Conde 34 of Mualbual, Zumarraga withdrew her P 1, 300.00 today and said she will use part of the money to buy her Girl Scout a pair of shoes.
Swalita Rueda, 38 with seven kids got P1,900.00. She plans to buy NFA rice for her big family, to augmet her husband's income who is a fisherman.
Zumarraga appears on the list of the top ten poorest municipalities in Samar province.
Meanhwile in Cagayan de Oro City, PGMA ordered Social Welfare Secretary Esperanza Cabral to bring the 4Ps to Barangay Minalwang. to support the Higaonone tribe.
PGMA was there to award certificates of land titlesto the Higaonon tribe in a remote village in Claveria, Misamis Oriental.
In response, Secretary Cabral revealed to the President that for the next 300,000 family beneficiaries of 4Ps the Higaonon tribe is included in their list as recipient. (PIA-Samar) [top]
