Two NPAs surrender to 78th IB

8th ID Catbalogan, Samar (30 October) -- Two New People's Army (NPA) members have bolted out from their party and surrendered to the Philippine Army.

In a text message from the 8th Infantry Division (8th ID) based in Catbalogan, Samar, Col. Armand Rico said that two regular communist members with firearms surrendered to the 78th Infantry Battalion based in Balamban, Cebu on October 27, 2009.

Teresita Comaingling y Pautan aka Joy/Loly 36 an organizer and member of District Guerlla Unit Central Visayas Regional Party Committee(CVRPC) surrendered with a Japanee caliber 30 rifle with a defaced serial number.

Another male, identified as Peter Puguso y Amilaw aka Boloy/ Dindo, 32 a local militia also surrendered with a Springfield Caliber 30.

The text message added that the duo decided to surrender due to the difficult situation and hope to avail of the government's Social Integration Program (SIP).

SIP is a comprehensive reintegration plan of the Arroyo government to bring rebels back into mainstream society.

The two are now with army officials at the 78th IB in Barangay Nangka, Balamban, Cebu. (PIA-Samar) [top]
