DOST Calabarzon hosts 2nd Southern Luzon Cluster S&T Fair

Lucena City (30 October) -- Dr. Alexander R. Madrigal, regional director of DOST CALABARZON, is this year's host of the 2nd South Luzon Cluster S&T Fair to be held from November 9 to 13, 2009 at SM City-Sta. Rosa in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.

The South Luzon Cluster, composed of DOST Region III DOST National Capital Region, DOST CALABARZON Region, DOST MIMAROPA Region and DOST Region V, will be holding the fair with the theme "Saanman, Kailanman, S&T ay Kailangan" through week-long conduct of activities.

The annual event aimed to raise public understanding of science and technology as well as inform people of DOST's role and contributions to national development.

DOST Secretary Dr. Estrekka F. Alabastro and Hon. Gov. Teresita S. Lazaro, as provincial host, will be convening with guests and participants during the Opening Ceremonies and Press conference on November 11. They will be joined by Hon. Rep. Joseph Emilio Abaya, chairman of the S&T Committee of the House of Representatives; Mayor Arlene Arcillas-Nazareno of Sta. Rosa City; and by Gov. Rosa Vilma Santos-Recto and Rafael Nantes of the province of Batangas and Quezon, respectively.

More than 30 national government agencies, SMEs and State Universities and Colleges will be showcasing products of their past year's research and development efforts from November 9 to 13. Student-populations and the public are enjoined to view the exhibits and participate in the daily science trivia contests. Select representative college and high school students on the other hand will be competing in an On-The-Spot Poster Making contest on November 9 and 10, respectively. Meanwhile, the Philippine Science Centrum will be bringing interactive science displays and educational modules that will, for the first time, be opened FREE for public viewing.

Technology fora on energy audit, metrology, food safety, and biogas technology, as well as, industry/plant visits to several SMEs will also be held. Lastly, a national wine competition on November 11 will bring together 16 entries for Mango, Duhat and Bignay Wine categories or a total of the country's best regional wines. (DOST4A/PIA4A) [top]
