NSO conducts pilot census on population and housing in Kabayan
Baguio City (31 October) -- A pilot census will be conducted in Kabayan, Benguet in November in preparation to the Census of Population and Housing to be conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO) in May 2010.
According to NSO-CAR Regional Director Olivia Gulla, a pilot census is a dry run or a simulation of the actual census operations from coordination to machine processing. It aims to improve the aspects of the census operations that need refinement prior to the actual count.
She clarified that the results will not be released since it is only a by-product and the interest is in the assessment of processes, strategies and instructions.
NSO-Benguet headed by Provincial Statistics Officer David Lupante is currently in Kabayan conducting training of Census Area Supervisor, Team Supervisor and Enumerators who will undertake the house-to-house interview.
To be discussed during the five-day activity are concepts, operational procedures and instructions in accomplishing the various census forms and sending status of enumeration through text messaging.
Kabayan meets the criteria of an area with mountainous and irregular terrain and high intermarriages of indigenous peoples. Other pilot areas are Sierra Bollones in Bohol to represent areas with high incidence of maternal deaths, Cagdianao in Dinagat Islands to represent large proportion of population with disability and Magallanes in Makati for high income area.
