Government agencies move ahead of Santi

Quezon City (31 October) -- Government agencies and their partners made efforts to soften the impact of Typhoon Santi even before it made a landfall, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) reported.

NDCC said local governments of the Polilio Group of Islands and REINA Areas in Quezon Province have moved more than 100 families into evacuation areas before Typhoon Santi struck.

In Pasig City, at least 100 families from Pinagbuhatan area were transferred to Santolan Elementary School and Damayan Covered Court.

Through the relief caravan sent off by President Arroyo last October 29, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) prepositioned relief supplies in 10 provinces in Regions 4-A and 5.

DSWD was able to collect more than Php 3 million worth of assorted relief supplies from government offices and international donors.

The relief supplies included family food packs, water, blankets, noodles and medicines. (PIA) [top]
