DLR exceeds land targets

Davao City (13 January) -- The Department of Land Reform (DLR) in Region XI has surpassed anew its last year’s target in land acquisition and distribution (LAD) program, with 5,246 hectares of agricultural land distributed to 4,098 farmer beneficiaries.

DLR regional director Rodolfo Inson said the region attained 101-percent accomplishment of its target of 5,208 hectares for the year 2004.

He said the province of Davao Oriental, which had the biggest target in terms of hectarage, distributed 2,017 hectares or 101 percent of the total target of 2,000 hectares. The second biggest target of 1,400 hectares was also exceeded by Davao del Norte which distributed 1,407 hectares, he said.

Meanwhile, Compostela Valley province gained 101 percent or 815 hectares of its target of 808 hectares, and Davao City distributed 403 hectares to 331 beneficiaries for a 101-percent accomplishment on its target.

Inson said from the start of the implementation of agrarian reform program in 1972, a total of 195,328 hectares have already been distributed to 120,111 farmer-beneficiaries. This is out of the working scope of 199,532 hectares.

DLR has only a remaining balance of 3,194 hectares to complete the land acquisition and distribution program in Region XI by 2008, the end of the extension period of CARP implementation pursuant to Republic Act 8532.

Inson said as soon as land distribution ends, the department will focus its task on support services for farmers. (DAR-XI/PIA XI) [top]
