Shelter programs for typhoon victims launched

Lucena City (13 January) -- Secretary for Welfare and Development Dinky Soliman, representing President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, together with DND Sec. Avelino Cruz recently led the ground breaking ceremony signalling the construction of housing resettlement project in Bgy. Agos-Agos in Infanta.

The housing project will be constructed under the Gawad-Kalinga program, in cooperation with the provincial government of Quezon and the national government.

Quezon First District Representative Raffy P. Nantes said that a total of 3,577 houses will be built in the town of Infanta, another 1,500 houses in Real and 1,700 in Gen. Nakar. A total of 6,777 in all for families who were left homeless. The said core houses are part of the 40,000 houses under the Gawad-Kalinga project in Luzon, and later will be replicated in the Visayas and Mindanao and regions.

Meanwhile, Infanta Mayor Filipina Grace America expressed her utmost gratitude to the Gawad-Kalinga for the assistance and implementation of the housing ressetlement project in their town.

Actor Onemig Bondoc who also donated a portion of his lot in the area was also present during the groundbreaking ceremony. (PIA) [top]
