AFF sector lures biggest investments

Davao City (18 January) -- The agriculture, fishery and forestry (AFF) sector lured the biggest capital investments in the Davao area with P627.8 million among foreign direct investments (FDI) last year.

Atty. Godofredo Duremdes of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Davao said the sector comprised 62.97 percent of the 70 industries worth P997.08 million.

The bulk of the investments were in five businesses under agriculture, hunting and forestry and only one in fishing worth P125,000.

There were 19 classified under the industry sector with total investments of P27.7 million or 2.78 percent of the total number of investments.Under this sector were five mining and quarrying investments worth P12.6 million; 13 in manufacturing or 1.47 percent worth P14.6 million; one under electricity, gas and water supply worth P500,000.

The service sector with 45 investors amounted to P341.4 million or 34.25 percent.

The sector includes wholesale trade/repair, 25 with P11.6 million (1.17 percent), hotels and restaurants, one with P100,000 (0.01 percent); transportation, storage and communication, three with P328.1 million (32.91 %); financial intermediation, three with P250,500 (0.02 percent); real estate and renting activities, nine with P960,105 (0.10 percent) and other services, four with P352,5000 (0.04 percent).
