Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur (31 January) -- One squad of 23IB and Cafgu Active Auxiliary (CAA) of San Vicente Patrol base led by TSG Lansang PA, encountered some fifteen communist terrorists at the vicinity of sitio Manawe, Barangay San Vicente, Loreto this province recently.

In his report to Col. Ricardo Morales Commanding Officer of 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade, based in New Leyte, Awa, Prosperidad, this province, Lt. Col. Jhonny Macanas Commanding Officer of 29th Infantry (Matatag) Battalion, revealed that one squad composed of Cadre personnel of 23IB CAFGU reacting to information of some civilians went on patrol to verify the presence of armed terrorists at the vicinity of sitio Manawe, San Vicente, Loreto, Agusan del Sur and encountered fifteen armed rebels of Front Command 34 of Southern Mindanao Revolutionary Committee (SMRC) of CPP/NPA/NDF under Aka Dolfo. The firefight lasted for five minutes and the rebel group withdrew towards different directions, dragging their wounded comrades as evidenced by bloodstains found in the encounter site. The government did not suffer any casualty, it was reported.

One section of 29th Infantry Battalion under 2Lt. Uy immediately reinforced the engaged troops and further conducted pursuit operation but lost track of the withdrawing armed group. "The information relayed to the security forces regarding the armed communist terrorists presence in the area was attributed to the civilian local organization of early warning system and desire to get rid of said terrorist presence and illegal extortion activities from the residents thereat," Morales said.
