Palace calls on PGMA detractors, admin officials not to insult AFP

MANILA (8 August) -- Malacaņang has called upon the detractors of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and the administration not to insult the professionalism and good name of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The call was made by Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye in relation to another allegation of a shadowy group of junior officers against 10 AFP officials who allegedly helped President Arroyo rig the 2004 presidential elections.

"This is already an old destabilization trick and the last one involving the Young Officers Union (YOU) was handily exposed to be a canard," the Presidential spokesman quipped.

The AFP command, Bunye continued, is already conducting its own investigation to ferret out the truth behind these allegations as the military has clearly shown the full capability to enforce justice within its ranks.

"The uniform should not be dragged into these vicious partisan smear campaigns," he added. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
