Solid waste management program gets boost from Antique government

by ML Gadian

San Jose, Antique (12 August) -- The Provincial Government is strongly supporting the full implementation of RA 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Program (ESWMP).

Initial measures being undertaken in consonance to this program are the adoption of Provincial Ordinance No. 005-02 which requires all LGUs in the province for its strict compliance and also the creation of ESWM Board which is tasked to review and endorse plans formulated by LGUs in consonance to RA 9003.

Moreover, Executive Order No. 90 dated May 26, 2005 was issued enjoining all Provincial Government Offices to strictly implement the salient features of ESWMP such as waste segregation system to be categorized into biodegradable, non-biodegradable and recyclable waste. All national agencies and LGUs are likewise mandated to adopt waste segregation in their respective offices as part of ESWM campaign under said act.

Furthermore, to ensure this environmental program is seriously adhered to, the Solid Waste Management Provincial Technical Working Group (PTWG) in their last meeting agreed to monitor and evaluate the status of waste segregation in all provincial and national offices. A monitoring team will be fielded to visit all offices to determine compliance of said Executive Order.

Active involvement of everyone to this environmental campaign is a valuable contribution in making Antique a clean and ecological friendly province. (PIA) [top]
