San Jose, Antique (22 August) -- Dengue cases continue to rise with 78 cases reported since January of this year.
Dr. Nelly Abiera, Provincial Health Officer said death cases were reported one each from the towns of San Remigio, Tobias Fornier and Culasi.
With these situation, the people should continue to intensify its cleanliness campaign and preventive measures undertaken to ensure that the breeding places of "aeges eagypti", the dengue carrier mosquito is eliminated.
Flower vases, petals of flower and bromeliads, old tires should be removed and cleaned as these type of mosquito thrives in clean standing water. Abiera campaigned for "tepok kiti-kiti goodbye dengue".
Dr. Abiera also stressed that utmost care and close observation must be done especially when symptoms of dengue like fever, rashes and bleeding or hemorrhage appear. Medical help should be sought right away. She also forewarned about use of "asperin or aspilet" must never be administered or given to children sick of dengue for it will only aggravate the situation.
The massive info campaign must be coupled with distribution of brochure on "How to Manage Dengue," Dr. Abiera concluded. (PIA) [top]
