PRDCP chose Region XI to be part of the project because it is among the leading banana producers and manufacturers in the country. In order to formally inform the public about this new project on bananas, the Department of Science and Technology in Region XI (DOST-XI) in cooperation with the PRDCP held a consultative meeting with the banana stakeholders of the region last November 18, 2005 at DOST XI office. It was attended by the players in the banana business. Daisy Taņafranca, program leader of the Packaging R&D Center of DOST-ITDI, headed the consultative forum.
