Cebu Task Force Newsman formed

Cebu City (5 December) -- The Philippine National Police has formed Task Force Newsman to pursue leads into the arrest and prosecution of the assailant of murdered journalist George Benaojan. Benaojan was killed at 9:30 pm last Wednesday.
Headed by Cebu Provincial Police Chief P/Supt. Vicente Loot, the task force is a composite team that includes other law enforcement agencies like the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Cebu Provincial Intelligence and Investigation Division, and eventually the National Bureau of Investigation.
As of this time, the team is already pursuing all angles that may lead to the the immediate arrest of Benaojan's killer. Likwewise, police authorities here are glad that PNP Chief Arturo Lomibao visited Cebu yesterday to personally check the crime scene and to also know what the local PNP has done to solve the case.
In relation to this, KBP Cebu Chapter President, Edward Abad, is appealing to the law enforcers to make immediate solution and give justice to Benaojan's death. " We strongly condemn this barbaric act done to a member of the media," he said.
After the murder of Benaojan, some radio commentators in Cebu are now appealing to those aggrieved of the criticisms to seek redress in proper forum like filing a libel case against them and not resort to killing which is a dastardly act. (PIA 7) [top]
