Cebu palace reporters thank PGMA for swift action

by Roberto M. Cabardo

Cebu City (5 December) -- In a phone interview, Malacaņang sa Sugbo Press Corps President Junrey Nadela thanked President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for her swift action on the investigation of a Cebuano journalist George Benaojan. "We would like to thank President Arroyo that she immediately sent PNP Chief Arturo Lomibao here to check the crime scene and to personally have an update on the case," said Nadela.

The same official is also optimistic and has full confidence that the police authorities will successfully solve the case provided those who have witnessed the murder will help the law enforcers. To this, he appealed to the public who may have knowledge on the reason behind the killing and the identity of the killer to come out and report what they know to the police.

He added that although it is the responsibility of the police to solve crimes, he also believed that the public also has a share in the responsibility. He also said that should this attitude of indifference continue, he believes the killings not just of journalist but also of other citizens will continue to haunt society.

Murdered Cebuano journalist George Benaojan used to be with Nadela when he and the victim were assigned to Cebu City Hall as their beat. (PIA 7) [top]
