Gov't dismisses rumored coup
MANILA (14 December) -- Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye has dismissed the rumored attempts to stage a coup de'tat, saying these stories are being foisted to instill fear and uncertainty in a season of hope.
This, after reports disclosed alleged plots of rogue soldiers to seize power from the present administration while disgruntled combatants and police officers take over key military bases to eventually push the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Bunye, who is the Presidential Spokesman, restated again that the unity of command and the professional loyalty of the uniformed services are total and unsullied as the national security situation is firm and invincible.
"These desperate scenarios are the mark of an opposition in its dying throes," he quipped.
Meanwhile, the Secretary called on the nation to remain calm and undistracted as the people look forward to the continuing surge of confidence and hope. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
