MOMCO boosts incomes of OFW dependents - Dulatre

By Rose Palacio

Davao City (14 December) -- In consonance with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's pro-poor program, the Mindanao Overseas Filipino Workers Multi-purpose Cooperative (MOMCO) has been providing assistance to OFW dependents to make them self-reliant.

MOMCO president Lourdes Dulatre, in an interview during the Serbisyo sa Katawhan over Sonshine Radio DXRD anchored by Edgar Candia said the OFW cooperative is one of the strongest links uniting dependents and families in Mindanao.

MOMCO is also the first Pre-departure Orientation (PDO) Seminar provider in Mindanao, following the granting of OWWA accreditation number NGO-001-05.

Based on Memorandum instruction 013 of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and pursuant to the provisions of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA)-OWWA joint circular number 04, it facilitates the handling of PDOs and transfer of pre-departure orientation program management from POEA to OWWA.

The PDOs are being conducted to make applicants for overseas work aware of the customs and traditions, laws and culture of the host country.

MOMCO members are taught to be self-reliant and earn their income by as much as P500.00 per day through MOMCO's various programs such as the OFW Groceria; savings deposits' mortuary trust fund; insurance, lending and e-loan services; Padala centers; and share capital services.

Dulatre said the cooperative strives to be transparent in all its transactions to earn the trust and confidence of its members.

MOMCO members can inspect and examine books of accounts, share registry and all other records during office hours.

Members can also observe regular meetings of the cooperative's board of directors every second Saturday of the month from 9"00am to 12:00 noon at the MOMCO office at Door 11 PTA complex, Magsaysay Park, Davao City. MOMCO's telephone number is 300-8169. (PIA) [top]
