PGMA leads Rizal Day rites on December 30

Quezon City (30 December) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo leads the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies at the Rizal Monument - Burnham Park, Baguio City at 7 a.m. in commemoration of the 109th death anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal, who was executed on December 30, 1896 by a firing squad on orders of the Spanish authorities for inciting Filipino to revolt.
According to NHI chair Ambeth Ocampo the theme of this year's observance is "Rizalismo: Sandigan ng Pagkakaisa, Nasyonalismo at Pag-unlad." The ceremonies will be replicated simultaneously also at 7:00 a.m. at the Rizal National Monument, Manila to be led by DFA secretary Alberto Romulo while LGU officials will be in-charge of the Rizal Shrines in Calamba, Laguna with former Senator Jose D. Lina and NHI chairmen Ambeth Ocampo in Dapitan.
In Rizal Park, Manila, 8 a.m. the "Alay Kay Rizal" Exhibit will be opened by Secretary Romulo to be assisted by the members of Rizal Day 2005 National Organizing Committee on Kanlungan ng Sining Gallery.
Annual Rizal Lectures will also be conducted at the Rizal Shrine - Fort Santiago by H.E. Ambassador Radu Hamescu, Embassy of Romania; Rizal Shrine - Calamba City by Supreme Commander Joey Lina, Knights of Rizal; and Rizal Shrine - Dapitan City by Director Corazon Alvina, National Museum.
The unveiling of historical marker "Liwasan ng Dapitan" at the Liwasang ng Dapitan Plaza, Dapitan City and a tarpaulin exhibit entitled "Remembering Rizal" at the Rizal Shrine, Fort Santiago, Intramuros, Manila and Calamba Laguna.
National Rizal Quiz Grand finals and Paligsahan sa Makabayang Pag-Awit organized by the Department of Education with Knights of Rizal were held in Martin Wood, Baguio City on December 18-22, 2005 with guest Dr. Pablo Trillana. Light and sound presentation of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal will be on December 26 to 31, 2005, 7 pm sponsored by National Parks Development Committee and PAGCOR.
Films on selected Rizal documentaries such as 'Rizal sa Dapitan,' Rizal the Movie' and "Bayaning Third World' will be shown for free at the Rizal park Open-Air Auditorium from December 28-30, 7- 9 pm. On the same date, a stage play entitled "Sulat ni Rizal sa mga Kababaihan ng Malolos will be shown for free at the Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium.
A special Rizal Day band concert sponsored by Armed Forces of the Philippines, National Parks Development Committee and DepEd will be playing selected patriotic pieces and modern repertoire to be performed by different units of the AFP such as Philippine Navy Band, Philippine Air Force Band, Philippine Army Band and the Philippine Military Academy Band.
