Davao City fine-tunes preparations for the coming ATF

Davao City (30 December) -- Davao City is fine-tuning its preparation for the Asean Tourism Forum (ATF).

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said they could only declare that they had perfected the preparations by the first week of January 2006.

"It is only in the first week of next month that we could declare that we are perfect for the event," he said.

He however said that there are already make over on the street names around the city.

Very noticeable also is the new image of the center island in the main thoroughfares of the city where lamp posts with an orchid design are conspicuously installed.

But Duterte said there is a little problem with the work for the drainage project because they have to re submit the re programming of work to the Land Bank of the Philippines which will take time.

He said he saw in the proposal the computerization for traffic but he said the city is not ready for it.

"We had this changed and submission of new proposal will have to undergo with the process," he said.

He also said that the city already acquired the necessary equipment although he said these are not enough.

The mayor meanwhile said that Davao City will continue to prosper despite the bad publicity in the past.

He said the city can do and make things happen saying that Davao City could still host events like the ATF, the Boy Scout Jamboree and the National Youth Day.

"We have to show to the world our flexibility and our being vibrant," he said.

"It is also important that we maintain the delicate balance in Davao City - the maintenance of good peace and order," he added. (PIA/pdbanzon) [top]
