Gov't to build more infrastructure in Mindanao
Davao City (1 September) -- The government will invest heavily in building more infrastructure in Mindanaos as it prepares the island to become an agribusiness hub.
Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Domingo Panganiban said their technology commercialization policies could unlock Mindanao's productivity and help transform it into an agricultural super region.
With this at hand, Panganiban said it can alter the island-region's technology network, and make it the basis for forming progressive relations between its citizens and the state.
"These progressive relations will be built on a tested economic principle," he said.
He said investments in agricultural technology increase the quality and production of farm and fishery commodities.
The increased production and quality of the farm and fishery goods will lead to expanded markets and the expanded markets and increased food production will mean higher incomes for both farm and fisher communities.
He also said that higher food production and better farm and fishery incomes will in turn reduce labor costs and boost the demand for the goods of the industry and service sectors.
He said there could be a cycle of greater investments and employment even as he said that the cycle could only happen if better technologies are accessed.
But the technologies that are to be promoted are safe and affordable tool as well as efficient.
"These kind of technologies that our experts have developed can alter current farm and fishery arrangements making them more economic and productive and they are designed to suit the soil, waters, topography, and climactic conditions of Mindanao," he said. (PIA XI) [top]
