Zamboanga peninsula bags national championship in Philippine Travel Mart

By Franklin P. Gumapon

Dipolog City (September 20) -- Zamboanga peninsula (Zampen) has bested other exhibitors in the recently concluded Philippine Travel Mart held at Mega Trade Hall, SM Mega mall, Mandaluyong, Metro Manila.

Around 300 exhibitors from all over the country have converged in Mandaluyong to display their respective tourist destinations but the booth of Region IX stood out emerging as the "Best Tourism Showcase."

Director Ric San Juan of the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Region IX said the concerted efforts and support extended by all the cities and provinces of the region made it win national champion.

The facade of the booth, which wowed the viewers, was designed by artists from Dipolog City led by Don Jabines. It was a bridge made of bamboo poles with ethnic designs heading towards waterfalls, replica of the falls one could see in Dipolog and other parts of the region.

San Juan also disclosed that some investors had already signified to invest in the region particularly in the province of Zamboanga del Norte as well as in the twin cities of Dipolog and Dapitan.

The delegates joining the travel mart from Zamboanga del Norte and the cities of Dipolog and Dapitan included Provincial Tourism Officer Atty. Ivan Patrick Ang, Atty. Flint Concha of the Provincial Toruism Council, Dipolog City Mayor Roberto Y. Uy, his wife Evelyn, Dipolog Tourism Officer Cecil Bilog, Dapitan Tourism Officer Radiolan Porlas and some members of the city tourism councils of Dipolog and Dapitan. (PIA) [top]
