Mayor Emano names tourism as key to Mindanao dev't

Cagayan de Oro City (22 September) -- City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano points to tourism promotion as the key to the genuine development of the entire island of Mindanao.

Emano emphasized this point during the opening of the National Tourism Week in SM City on Wednesday, September 20, even as he challenged the stakeholders of the tourism industry in Northern Mindanao to work together for the promotion of the region's vast tourism potentials.

He pointed out that the tourism development of Mindanao largely relies on the promotion of its natural wonders and exotic cultures which the Mindanaoans can truly be proud of.

"Developing Mindanao into a tourism destination needs a deeper and wider commitment from its people," the city mayor stressed.

Emano said that the only way for Philippines to grow is to develop Mindanao and tourism is one big aspect to boost the national economy.

He also hoped that as the national government celebrates the national tourism week, it will give more focus on the development of Mindanao as a premiere tourism destination.

Various destinations in R10 are showcased in SM and a daily cultural show will also be held for the duration of the week. The activity is anchored on the theme, "Tourism Enriches". (City Information Office/RAGCOM) [top]
