PIA Press Release

PNP launches hotlines in Siquijor

by Rizalie A. Calibo

Larena, Siquijor (25 September) -- In order to better serve the public through more efficient police service, the Philippine National Police (PNP) here recently launched official hotlines for every municipality.

Police Senior Superintendent Orlando Ualat said in a media briefing that the launching is part of the continuing efforts of the PNP in the region to address criminality problem and empower the community as well through crime prevention program.

"To address problems of lawlessness, we need to give stronger teeth to our campaign", Ualat said.

This is to prevent incursion of terrorism and problems of insurgency which have been active in our neighboring provinces since then, he said.

Crushing all the terrorist elements in the country is the Administration's top security concern as this is the only way to push through with the goal of effectively turning the country into a haven for investors and tourists.

Col. Ualat noted 16 crime incidents in Siquijor last quarter but rated them as still manageable. "We can safely say Siquijor is the safest place in the region as there have never been no recorded terrorist's incidents here ever, he said.

Part of the PNP's preparation for the forthcoming ASEAN summit in Cebu is the sending of personnel to a bomb dispersal training including the SWAT team. They are also presently augmenting personnel in every police station in the province.
