NFA Davao Oriental celebrates 34 years

by Mai Gevera & N. Duallo

Davao City (30 September) -- Relentlessly aiming for stability in the supply of NFA rice, the National Food Authority (NFA) in Davao Oriental celebrated its 34th anniversary this month.

One of the activities of the celebration was the “Ugnayan”, a forum between the NFA and its retailers.

In the forum, the NFA and the retailers thresh out existing problems between them, and the agency also got the pulse of the retailers on the kind of service that they have been giving through all these years.

“We are grateful that there was a good feedback from the retailers, and we wish and will work to maintain a harmonious relationship with them”, said Mr. Cirilo Naive, Information Officer of NFA-Davao Oriental.

Naive added that they are now working on the establishment of Tindahan Natin outlets in the entirety of Davao Oriental.

“For now, we already have 22 Tindahan Natin Outlets in the different municipalities of the province. We need to have 70 outlets by the end of the year, and that’s attainable”.

To really pursue this endeavor, the NFA is now accepting applicants who will do the operation of the Tindahan Natin outlets.

Applicants must come from depressed barangays, and there should also be a certification from the Dept. of Social Welfare and Development- DSWD that they are, indeed, from those barangays.

Tindahan Natin operators will operate the store by themselves in the first few months. If the store is already well established, the DSWD will already give assistance.

Naive also reported that thee is a slow disposal of NFA rice for this month.

“The NFA disposed only 15 thousand bags for this month, a big drop to the 25 to 30 thousand bags disposed during the same period last year.

This is despite the good quality of rice, and the good harvest.

In his inspiring message on the occasion of NFA 34th anniversary, Provincial Administrator Antonio Arañas called on NFA people to continue what they have started.

He also emphasized that the challenge for NFA still remains, which is to ensure stability of NFA rice for the province of Davao Oriental.

The occasion was attended by Mr. Alex Lipae, Provincial Administrator who represented Davao Oriental Gov. Marlene Palma Gil and Councilor Rosendo Linsag of the Committee on Agriculture, representing Mayor Francisco Rabat.

Also gracing the occasion were members of the Grains Retailers Confederation of Davao Oriental from the municipalities of Baganga, Cateel, Boston, Banaybanay, Lupon, San Isidro, and Mati. (PIA-XI) [top]
