Leyte gears for 62nd Leyte Landings anniversary celebration
Tacloban City (October 4) -- The Province of Leyte headed by Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla, is now in the full blast of preparation in connection with the forthcoming 62nd Anniversary of the Leyte Landings.
In a meeting of the different committees, Mr. Vincent Emnas, the provincial administrator, briefed the committee chairpersons on the various activities which are lined up in connection with the historical event in the province of Leyte.
He said that letters of invitations have been sent to the different diplomatic communities who are with the Allied Forces. He said that Japanese Ambassador Yashimoto has already confirmed his attendance. The United States of America and Canada has already made inquiries while the Embassy of New Zealand already sent a note that it will not be able to attend this yearís anniversary.
Aside from the Commemorative Program which will be conducted on October 20, other activities like the Sunrise and Sunset Ceremonies of the World War II Veterans will also be conducted.
There will be no civic military parade for this year, Mr. Emnas said, but the commemorative luncheon will push through at the Leyte Sports and Civic Center.
The Tourism and Trade Promotions Committee will organize a Consumers Trade Fair at the SME Center while the Agri-Aqua Committee will also host an Agri-Aqua Fair beside the SMED Center. There will also be a Garden Fair and a pet show aside from the Car Show which a car company has requested.
Many special events have been scheduled. This include the Search for IDOL Semi finals for the Provincial Level, Friendly Basketball Game, Governorís Golf Cup 2006, Regional Lawn Tennis Championship, 1st Governor Petilla Invitational Triathlon, Bike Tour, 1st National Carambola 2006 Menís Open Football Tournament, 2006 Kauswagan Mountain Bike Challenge and 2nd Palo Open Beach Volley Tournament, among others.
As in the past years, the municipalities of Tolosa, Palo and Dulag and the City of Tacloban will also have their respective activities starting on the 18th. (PIA 8) [top]
