NPA extortion activities intensified to fight all-out-war, says AFP
Davao City (6 October) -- Communist groups are intensifying the campaign to accummulate funds through extortion in order to come to blows with the government's declaration of all-out-war against insurgency.
The incidents like the burning of the two packing plants operated by the Philippine Fresh Fruits Incorporated are a way of expressing the NPA's anomalous intent.
Attacks on the key industries are a clear manifestation against the government that the communist group is bent on bringing down our democracy through economic sabotage and the sacrifice of lives.
The recent dilemma of the Philippine Fresh Fruits that almost lead in the cease of their operations and the suppose lay-off of their 200 employees is the aftermath of NPA atrocities in order to terrify companies who will bail in paying their demands of revolutionary tax.
The Philippine Fresh Fruits predicament may have not been solved if City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte did not intervene to find solutions to save the company from pledging down.
If solutions are not made, all of the 200 workers from Paquibato who are dependent on such industries for livelihood may have lost their jobs. These atrocities not only aggrieve the company and the common workers, but the prospect of economic development in the area itself.
The AFP gives full assurance to industries that they will foil NPA harassments, but they also appealed that the success of putting an end to extortion will greatly rest in the full cooperation of harassed industries. (5th CRG News/PIA XI) [top]
