Capalla to media: Assure parents for National Youth Day

Davao City (7 October) -- Promotion heats up for NYD as it hits down South.
Archbishop Fernando Capalla in his recent meeting with the National Youth Day (NYD) steering committee heads, August 7, 2006 stressed the important role of the media in promoting this World Youth Day-inspired event as the Archdiocese of Davao accepted its hosting for the first time.
Almost 10,000 youth delegates are expected to gather from all over the Philippines. The NYD needs 2,000 volunteers and 5,000 foster parents.
Msgr. Capalla stressed that sponsoring the said event like being part of Foster Parenting Program is a good avenue for them to be evangelizers themselves and to be channels of values.
As of this date, there are 4, 000 delegates who have already registered. Six thousand more heads are needed to complete the list.
The bishop further emphasized to use the media in informing the delegates' parents, especially those who are from Luzon and Visayas, to encourage their children to come to Davao as this is a safe place.
Tracing back its history, the NYD celebration started in 1986 and the NYD event this year is a preparation for the WYD celebration in Australia in 2008. (NYD-MRP) [top]
