Commentary: Pope, Queen messages elate President Arroyo
Bacolod City (9 October) -- Although saddened by the challenges brought about by heaps of calamities that typhoon 'Milenyo' brought, President Gloria M. Arroyo, nevertheless, is lifted by the words of consolation from no less than two powerful personalities of our time Pope and Queen of England Queen Elizabeth.
"President Arroyo is deeply grateful for the outpouring of prayers led by the Pope, messages of concern from Queen Elizabeth, and actual assistance from all around the world for the victims of typhoon "Milenyo," as now is the time to take stock of the lessons of this calamity and taking action to protect the people from future harm," Malacaņang said.
The present administration is taking on a different approach in preparing the country from potential calamity makers. That is to instill among the government and the people a culture of preparedness so that readiness is a place even before a catastrophe strikes.
"The NDCC is working closely with the local governments and the private sector on a rolling plan for comprehensive vigilance and preparedness to save property and lives from any calamities all year round, which the public is urged to keep track and be involved in these efforts."
The government is currently doing reconstruction and rehabilitation of structures badly damaged the storm and flood as relief and medical missions continue to be carried out in hardest hit areas. (PIA/LOL) [top]
