Energy board orders NVizcaya power coop to refund P73M for consumers
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (9 October) -- The energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) recently ordered the Nueva Vizcaya Electric Cooperative (NUVELCO) here to repay its member consumers P73 million for overcharging over the implementation of the Purchased Power Adjustment (PPA) scheme.
In a 10-page order, the ERC directed NUVELCO to refund its member consumers P0.1992 per kilowatt hour for each consumer. This means that every 10 kilowatt hour used by every consumer should be paid back to them at P1.992.
The order was know during the recent public hearing by NUVELCO regarding the proposed rate hike and its subsequent plan for a multi-million peso loan to improve its services.
But Lloyd Valdez, NUVELCO board chair said they have filed a motion for reconsideration before the ERC on the ground that the cooperative cannot afford to implement the order because of its poor financial standing.
"We had been following the computation made by the former Energy Regulatory Board (ERB). However, when the ERB was changed into a commission, the computation was revised which resulted to overcharging," Valdez said.
Valdez said that despite their appeal, they will abide by the ERC order, saying they should be allowed to return the amount in a staggered basis. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
