Assorted fruit trees proposed for NVizcaya watershed
DIADI, Nueva Vizcaya (9 October) -- The provincial government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) here are finalizing documents that would integrate planting of fruit bearing trees in the Lower Magat forest reserve here.
Forester Roberto Apigo, provincial environment and natural resources officer said discussions for the financial plans of the project are now being undertaken with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).
Based on the proposed plan, the provincial government will provide the area for the plantation, the DENR shall provide technical support and maintenance of the project while the DBP shall provide funding for the project.
The proposed fruits to be planted are mango, lanzones, rambutan ad trees such as mahogany and rattan to enhance its capability as watershed of the region and generate income for the beneficiaries.
Apigo also said other potential source of livelihood in the area are the propagation of tiger grass and neem tree.
