Gov’t seeks help of business sector

Davao City (13 October) -- Education (DepEd) Secretary Jesli Lapus has urged the business community to support the “Adopt-a-School” program of the administration and encouraged business leaders to lead in the process of social transformation by helping the public education sector through the Department of Education.
DepEd XI Director Diamar Kadon bared that in region eleven, several business sector have been helping in the construction of school buildings to augment the lack of classrooms and other school facilities of the education department.
“Private sectors like the Davao Light & Power company, the Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other entities have been donating school buildings in the region”, Director Kadon said.
In an interview during the regular ARENA-XI Forum aired over DXRP Radyo ng Bayan anchored by Josette Olivera and the Philippine Information Agency, City Schools Superintendent Gloria Labor said city councilor Paz Mata is also helping DepEd by helping secure donations from the Japanese government like computers and other learning materials.
Superintendent Labor said secretary Lapus has embarked on the upgrading and modernization of public education and one of the focus is the implementation of the “Adopt-A-School” program from the perspective of the business sector.
Supt. Labor, who was joined by Minerva Fabros and Dodong Atillo said the education Secretary wants to create a close relationship between public and private sector to make education a national priority.
The Adopt-a-school program is a DepEd flagship pro-poor program which gives private entities the opportunities to become active partners in education by providing assistance either on a short-term or long-term basis in the upgrading and modernization of public elementary and high schools nationwide.
