UDP to celebrate 8th anniversary with upland community
Davao City (14 October) -- The Upland Development Programme in Southern Mindanao (UDP) will be celebrating its 8th Anniversary in a symbolic gesture of communing with the people of the upland barangay on October 19, 2006 at Barangay. Culian, Mati, Davao Oriental.
This will be the programme’s last anniversary celebration since it began in January 1999 in testing and implementing a replicable model of sustainable upland development.
This year, the local leaders’ capabilities will be tapped in organizing and motivating their constituents to execute a community-wide affair, involving all residents in the community. The Upland Barangay Association (UBA) members of Culian will host the games and manage cultural presentations and arrange a tree planting session.
UDP’s eight years of existence have been abundant with a myriad of challenges and valuable lessons while working with the local government units, partner agencies, NGOs, NGAs, financial institutions and other stakeholders.
Through the years, the programme has evolved and is now promoting a Sustainable Upland Development (SUD) model which, consists of the following schemes: Land-Use Based Barangay Development Planning, Barangay Forest Protection Management Scheme, Agricultural Extension Scheme, Labor-Based Routine Road Maintenance Scheme.
UDP in Southern Mindanao is a Philippine-European Union Development Cooperation executed by the Department of Agriculture and implemented through the local government units, partner financial institutions and other participating agencies. It started on January 1999 and will end on July 2007. (UDP-L. Dagpin/PIA XI) [top]
