Davao City (17 October) -- Davao City's biggest running club today has encouraged potential donors to its first ever marathon for a cause undertaking on Sunday, December 3, 2006 at the parking areas of the Victoria Plaza, Bajada, J.P. Laurel Avenue, Davao City.
The 7-man directors of the board led by its president Manuel Jamiana, issued the call as it sent out official advertising solicitation for its annual newsletter and appeal letters that went as far as Ambassador Kristie Anne Kenney of the US Embassy and Chairman William I. Ramirez of the Philippine Sports Commission.
In its two decades of existence, Davao's prime marathon club had envisioned the 23rd Ultimate Challenge Finishers Marathon to be a triple volley of 5 kilometers of fun run, the unique Ekiden Relay and the peak 42-kilometer marathon.
A reach out for the recuperating child patients especially the indigent ones would make this year's biggest running event more fulfilling, Jamiana said in a recent interview with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).
Jamiana added that "We deem it more purposeful to invite the participation of Ambassador Kenney knowing her love for children that are in dire need of help."
On the part of the country's managers in sports, their assistance would be of greater mileage for the Sunday Runners who would also want to reach out to thousands of running enthusiasts among students in the different schools and universities.
"We hope that the private sector and the government-run PSC would be able to accommodate our request to subsidize the meager entry fees for students," Jamiana added. (PIA XI) [top]
