Leyte town recalls raising of 1st US flag in Dulag Hill 120

Tacloban City (October 19) -- The town of Dulag, Leyte will be the center of activities today in connection with the 62nd Leyte Landing Anniversary.

The Dulag Commemorative Celebration which is sponsored by the Municipal Government of Dulag, Leyte and the Provincial Government of Leyte will be held at the Hill 120 at Barangay San Rafael, where the American flag was first raised in the Philippines during the Liberation.

Dulag Mayor Timmy Sano said that the annual activity at the Hill 120 is aimed at keeping alive the importance of the Hill120 in the Liberation of the country from foreign invaders. He said that the young people of the municipality and the whole country must know the important historical events of their municipality.

The Hill 120 Rites will be followed by the Commemorative Luncheon in honor of the World War II veterans, dignitaries and guest who are attending the 62nd Anniversary of the Leyte Gulf Landings.

In the afternoon, the local government of Dulag is sponsoring a Palaro ng Lahi at the Dulag Town Plaza.

Other activities today will include the Nostalgia in honor of the World War II Veterans of Tanauan, Leyte at 10:00 o'clock in the morning and the Alang-Alang Veterans Day in recognition of the World War II veterans at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon.

The Annual Madonna Shrine Rites will be held at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon. The ceremony will be attended by the Japanese veterans who are on a sentimental visit to Leyte.

At 5:00 o'clock in the afternoon, the House of Representatives Basketball Exhibition Game will be held at the Leyte Sports and Civic Center with the Congressional Team playing against the Clergy's Team.

For the aficionados, the first Leyte Landing Practical Shooting Competition sponsored by the Leyte Shooters Association, Inc. will be held at the Firing Range at Kota Cancabato at Barangay San Jose, Tacloban City from October 19-21, 2006.

The Liberation Night at 7:00 o'clock in the evening at the Governor's Hall at the Capitol Building will be hosted by the Provincial Government of Leyte for the foreign dignitaries and guests attending the 62nd Anniversary Celebration of the Leyte Gulf Landings this year. (PIA 8) [top]
