Promote best practices in agriculture, manufacturing - expert

by Romy Sabaldan

Davao City (21 October) -- Good agricultural practices coupled with good manufacturing practices equals productivity.

This is the simple arithmetic presented in no mean terms by acknowledged expert Sofronio "Boy" Jucutan of Standard Global Source in such wide-ranging discussion as productivity.

Discussion of the issues involving productivity was made in observance of the Productivity Month during the weekly edition of Kapihan Sa PIA anchored by Felix Irlandez with the participation of media and top personalities of the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) of Mindanao and Jucutan's Standard Global Source.

Reynaldo Navacilla, Vice-President and Managing Director of DAP Mindanao, has revealed that productivity is now well organized and systematic with its global reach.

There is now a very strong productivity movement worldwide with focus particularly in the Philippines in such specific sector as agriculture, trade and environmental management according to Navacilla.

In Mindanao for example, Navacilla said that there are now a number of organized movement for quality and productivity which the DAP had helped organized in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).

Productivity consciousness must also engulfed government to influence the private sector vice versa, according to the advocates of productivity which also includes Richard Ursua, head of Productivity, Quality and Competitiveness of DAP Mindanao.

Meanwhile, Jucutan has announced that a model for GAP - Good Agricultural Practices and GMP-Good Manufacturing Practices will be launched next week in time for the General Membership meeting of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Incorporated (DCCCII).

"We will be re-echoing all the best practices in agriculture and manufacturing, the way it should be using certain international standards," Jucutan said in a huddle with media.

That includes production and preservation of fruits and processing of foods in the modern, clean and technologically accepted standards worldwide like having the mark of a GMP or Good Manufacturing Practices to be globally competitive and accepted, Jucutan indicated. (PIA XI) [top]
