USEP-BEAM scholarship guidelines bared

By Rose B. Palacio

Davao City (26 October) -- The University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP), a state university is offering a Master of Education major in Instructional Leadership (MEIL) postgraduate program among in-service public school teachers throughout regions XI, XII and ARMM and to elementary and high school teachers in the private sector.

Speaking on the regular ARENA-XI radio forum over DXRP Radyo ng Bayan anchored by Jet Olivera and the Philippine Information Agency. USEP Professor Gladys Florangel Ortiz, said that the Mindanao ELearning Space and the College of Education of the University will deliver the courses/subjects of the MEIL program on a distance mode.

It will adopt a blended model of delivery, as such, students will have minimal face-to-face session with the professor in each of the subject areas, she said.

A key component of the project is the enhancement of the skills, knowledge and capacity of educational managers, teachers and teacher educators in order to improve the quality of teaching and learning in basic education.

The project, Ortiz said is in line with its efforts to assist the DepED personnel actively involved in improving the quality of basic education in the Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao (BEAM) project

USEP masteral students Norbert Elbanbuena, Mitch Corrales, Jane Prieto, Ruth Marie Infiestro, Melanie Pagkaliwagan, Sheryl Pajulas and Mutya Tarona also joined Professor Ortiz in the radio guesting sharing their experiences in the different USEP postgraduate programs.

BEAM is a 6-year DepED project jointly funded by the Philippine government and the Government of Australia through its international development assistance agency, AusAID will award at least 90 scholarship slots for the MEIL program and provide qualified applicants with fifty percent (50%) scholarship. Normally, the program will be completed for two and a half years.

To avail of the scholarship program, applicants must be a DepED teacher for at least two years with a permanent status in Regions XI, XII and ARMM; should not be more than 45 years old; no pending administrative or criminal case; must have a very satisfactory performance in the field for at least 3 years; must have signed a commitment to serve the agency for one year for every year of the scholarship; and must not be a recipient of any scholarship within the period of this scholarship.

You may get the application form and related information about the scholarship from your nearest DepED regional offices, Division offices or from the BEAM offices in Regions XI, XI and ARMM, or get application forms at the College of Education, USEP, Davao City. (PIA-XI) [top]
