Learn to love our own differences, says Davao dad

By Rose B. Palacio

Davao City (31 October) -- "We must learn to love our own differences, must be able to grapple with the complexities of our many cultural diversities and learn to delight our own cultural differences," said City Councilor Domingo Dalodo, council's committee chair on social services and development.

Gracing the radio program dubbed as "ARENA-XI" over DXRP Radyo ng Bayan anchored by Josette Olivera and the Philippine Information Agency, Councilor Dalodo said City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte have visited far-flung barangays in the city and found out that cultural traditions of Lumads have not changed. These traditions should be reflected and be understood, Councilor Dalodo said.

"Cultural traditions and differences could stay because these are the ways of living among our indigenous peoples but this should not be a hindrance for development and should be a source of unifying strength to keep a peaceful community in their own respective communities", he said.

"I believe that respecting our Lumads and their own diversities will unify our different tribes and a peaceful effort will be easier," he added.

Respecting their ways and cultural traiditions, he said ,will earn their confidence in government and would not retard their development.

According to Dalodo, diversities of cultural tribes may also be integrated into the development process to ensure growth and stability for all Dabawenyos in Davao.

Councilor Dalodo said "as we respect their culturala traditions, we can harness the diversity of the cultural communities as the key to their productivity while stimulating innovations and creativity."

Since the time he was elected as city councilor of the third district in Davao, Councilor Dalodo has been conducting barangay and community level consultations on peace and order as he advocates moral values and respect for each other although they have different diversities to gain unity and development in their respective communities.
