Official reports early solution of Tacloban water district row
Tacloban City (November 13) -- All is well now at the Leyte Metropolitan Water District, Manager Nestor Villasin informed when interviewed by PIA.
Manager Villasin said that he has already talked with the LMWD Board and the LMWD employees and the miscommunication is already solved. The noise barrage was conducted only between 12:00 o’clock to 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon, he said.
Manager Villasin said that the Board is too willing to release the benefits of the employees. There are just some matters that have to cleared with the Commission on Audit. The Board is just being cautious, not presumptuous that it knows everything, Villasin said.
This comment sprang from the news that the employees of the Leyte Metropolitan Water District (LMWD) have launched a noise barrage campaign at the Water District’s main office along Bonifacio Street in Tacloban City in order to press for the release of their benefits.
An employee was quoted saying that the LMWD Board led by Chairman Teddy De Veyra refused to release their benefits and privileges. The employee further said that more are joining the noise barrage and if the noise barrage campaign fails, the employees would put up a tent outside the LMWD Compound to rally other water district employees into supporting the cause.
Villasin revealed that as of Saturday, he already got the assurance of the employees that they will already stop the noise barrage and to remove all the placards outside the main office.
Although Villasin sympathize with the cause of the employees, he said that in fairness to the LMWD Board, it just want to make sure that its moves do not violate any government rules.
There is no better way of solving doubts and queries than talking about them with the people concerned, Manager Villasin said.
Manager Villasin took over as manager of the once beleaguered water district in June of 2005. Since then, the LMWD has had many innovations which improved its service to the consumers. (PIA 8) [top]
