"Empty promises are what they get from joining the bandit criminal NPAs. They have wasted their valuable time and resource to create positive and fruitful activities, by joining the useless group" said Datuin. The said Communist-terrorists were listed number 10 and number 16 in the ITU Order of Battle for the 4th quarter of calendar year 2006.

Based in their testimony, their reasons for joining the underground movement were poverty, the perceived corruption within the bureaucracy and unstable financial status. They surrendered because they are already tired of carrying their firearms, exhausted and further suffered poverty. They got attracted to the Balik-Baril and Amnesty Program of the government and a chance to be an enlisted personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Maj Gen Ernesto Boac AFP, the Commanding General of 10th Infantry (Aguila) Division said, "we welcome the surrender. This clearly shows the pressures of our operations, the combat and civil military propelled by intelligence, is paying off" he added.

"More surrenders will be forthcoming especially christmas is near. The loneliness added with seclusion from their normal activities are the major reason of surrenders" said MAJ JOSE MARIA CUERPO PA, the Group Commander of 5th CRG CRSAFP.

The municipalities of Mabini and Pantukan are gold panning areas and are considered as resource fund generation of the bandits. (28IB/5th CRG News/PIA) [top]
