Best performers in nutrition program implementation to be announced

Davao City (28 November) -- City Nutrition Chief Venus Millana and National Nutrition Council head Ma. Teresa Ungson said they would announce the winners and best performers local government.
Units (LGUs) in the implementation and management of their local nutrition programs for the year 2005 during the Regional Nutrition Awarding ceremony slated November 29 at Grand Men Seng hotel, Davao City from 1-5pm.
A formal turnover ceremony will also be conducted to give highlights of the Chairmanship of the Regional Nutrition committee along with the transfer of NNC from the Department of Agriculture to the Department of Health as stated under Executive Order 472.
The NNC focuses on the importance of proper management of nutrition implementation, proper diet and monitoring growth to achieve and maintain a child's nutritional well-being.
The focus on growth monitoring coincides with the country's adoption of the international reference standards for weight and height measurement of children.
The adoption of the IRS in assessing growth and development of children takes off from a rights-based perspective. It upholds the right of all children to achieve their potential for growth regardless of sex or race.
Every mature adult, of sound mind and body, has an inherent responsibility to regularly monitor a child's growth and diet to facilitate the fulfillment of every child's right to proper nutrition. (PIA- XI) [top]
