Davao YMCA sets induction

By Rose B. Palacio

Davao City (6 December) -- The Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) of Davao, Inc., an organization that moulds the young in achieving a well-rounded personality, will hold its 35th Annual Induction of Officers and Board of Directors '07 on December 9 (Saturday) at Royal Mandaya hotel starting 6:00pm.

Also to be inducted are newly-elected officers and board of directors of the Y's Men's club of Metro Davao. A Christmas party and camaraderie will follow after the induction.

Contact persons for the said affairs are: Sylvia Piedad and Rene Moreno at tel 222-0363.

Former YMCA president Joe Sevilla stressed the need for awareness and information drive on what is YMCA, its goals and programs and what it has been doing especially for the young.

Many years ago, the most prestigious and active civic organization in the country was the YMCA. At that time, a majority of the citizens know what is YMCA and were aware of the projects that they are doing especially towards the moulding of the youth sector to be more responsive and active citizens in the country.

However, it is sad to note that nowadays, such prestige has gone away and practically it seems that this is slowly disappearing. We have to keep the fire burning and invite our young citizen to join YMCA and be part of moulding the youth to be future leaders and community development builders, he said.

He said YMCA is trying to build its membership and involvement in various activities as partners in development with other organizations.

“While the laymen brings into the partnership their knowledge and skills, members of YMCA has also something to contribute which would bring development to an organization” he said

“The Christian way of life and the ability to make this way of life relevant to our development is one of the programs of YMCA” he added. (PIA-XI) [top]
