Garden in the bag implemented in Tacloban barangay

By Jonnie H. Buenaventura

Tacloban City (8 December) -- Brgy. Chairman Roy Chua of Brgy., 64 Bliss Sagkahan, this City, called on his constituents to support his programs on vegetable farming thru garden in the bag.

In his dialogue among his constituents chairman Chua elaborated the needed effort of every household to have a garden in each and every family in order to generate additional income and gain the fruits derived from backyard gardening.

According to him, garden in the bag is done by planting seedlings on an empty container with soil or sand mixed with organic fertilizer. With this, there is no need to have a wide area in the compound.

He also emphasized that the willingness of his council to support the clean and green program of the city government prompted him to implement this method. It has proven already in other barangays that said kind of gardening does not only beutify the barangay but likewise gives additional food sources to the constituents.

"There is nothing wrong of implementing this method, rather, this is beneficial to the families who do the gardening. They will reap the fruits of their labor", he said

He likewise cautioned the populace in his barangay to be vigilant and report to his office any person whom they think has suspicious actions, in order to deter immediately any undesirable situation.

In an interview with a resident of Brgy. 64, he said that the initiative of the barangay is a good example to their children because anything they see will be manifested in their life and somehow they may do the same.

In this project, barangay residents need not worry with the seedlings for it is given free of charge. What is being required is the willingness to do the gardening.

Barangay chairman Chua informs the people that they have ample organic fertilizer, and is available at P5.00 per kilo. (PIA-8) [top]
