More Tindahan Natin outlets to open in Antique

by EA Abasquez

San Jose, Antique (14 December) -- More Tindahan Natin (TN) outlets will open soon in Antique as several beneficiaries has been identified and requirements being processed according to NFA Manager Procopio Trabajo II.

Tindahan natin is a government program that accesses the poor families to cheaper rice and noodles and other staple food. It is a hunger-mitigation project jointly implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the National Food Authority (NFA). TN likewise provides jobs and livelihood to those who are engaged in the grains business.

In a dialogue with stakeholders, PSWDO Larry Petinglay stressed than TN beneficiaries must be organized so as to enhance the smooth implementation of the project. Services like capability building, livelihood and other entrepreneurial skills trainings are easier to facilitate if there is a functional organization.

The DSWD extends a funding support of P20 thousand each to TN operator payable in 12 equal installments without interest through the Land Bank of the Philippines.

NFA on the other hand assist in facilitating the administrative requirements and conducts ocular inspection of Tindahan Natin even in hard-to-reach areas so as to ensure compliance of the project.

Manager Trabajo clarified that TN operators with Letter of Guarantee issued by the DSWD are entitled to delivery of rice and noodles worth P20,000.00 minus the administrative fees.

In Antique, seven Tindahan Natin are now in operation. About seventy more are expected to open. (PIA) [top]
