Leyte's inflation declines to 6.4% in September

Tacloban City (December 14) -- Leyte's inflation rate went down by 0.2 percentage point compared to that of August, the National Statistics Office in the province of Leyte reports.

This signifies that the general price levels of goods and services in the province of Leyte significantly went up to 6.4 percent compared to the price levels a year ago, the NSO report continued.

What contributed to the decrease of the year on year rate of price changes in the province is the considerable drop of 1.4 percentage points of the inflation on tobacco. For four consecutive months, the inflation rate of tobacco was maintained at 5.5 percent. On the fifth month which is in September, the inflation dropped to 4.1 percent

Also noted by NSO Leyte is the declining inflation on beverages, service and food since May, June and July respectively. Among the items under services, however, it is only in transportation and communication that decrease in inflation was noted with 1.9 percentage points, the highest decline among all the commodity items.

Increased inflation was observed in the medical services and personal service. For the heavily weighted food, inflation rate went down on fruits and vegetables, rice, dairy products and cereal preparations.

Growth in inflation was observed on the contrary, on food items which include corn, miscellaneous foods, eggs and fish and meat, NSO Leyte added.

Meanwhile, NSO Leyte noted that other major commodity items which registered upward movement on inflation rates were clothing, house and repairs and miscellaneous items which include household furnishing and equipment, household operations, personal care and effects.

Only the inflation rate of fuel, light and water remain unchanged from August to September, NSO Leyte concluded. (PIA 8) [top]
